A small pilot with a big idea.
FreeWash is starting on a handful of streets in Bounds Green, North London. The goal is simple: prove that a better model of car washing can work — one that’s local, ethical, and gentle on the environment.
Local young people earning fairly
Many young people and students need simple, flexible ways to earn locally. Every FreeWash operator is a named, trained local — and the money for the wash goes directly to the person doing the work.
Anti-exploitation by design
Many residents avoid hand car washes because they worry about exploited labour, modern slavery, and cash-in-hand work. FreeWash is transparent: named operators, above-board earnings, and no anonymous middlemen.
Low-water, reduced runoff
Conventional car washing uses a lot of water and can send harsh chemicals into drains. We bring a limited amount of water and use a phosphate-free pre-wash plus a rinseless wash-and-finish method with microfibre cloths.
Street by street
We’re starting small so we can do it well. If it works here, we’d love to help other neighbourhoods do the same.
