FAQ
What people ask us most about the FreeWash pilot.
Is FreeWash a normal hand car wash?+
No. FreeWash is a local pilot that brings the wash to your home and uses trained local young people. It is designed to be transparent, low-water and anti-exploitation by design.
Is it chemical-free?+
Not completely. We use cleaning products where needed, but the method is designed to avoid harsh chemical washdown. We use a phosphate-free pre-wash and a rinseless wash-and-finish system.
How much water do you use?+
Much less than a conventional car wash. We bring a limited amount of water and use a controlled low-water process.
Who washes my car?+
A trained local FreeWash operator. During the pilot this will be a small number of local young people.
Does the money go to the young person?+
Yes. The purpose of the pilot is to create fair, local earning opportunities for young people.
What areas do you cover?+
We are starting street by street. Enter your postcode to check whether your street is included in the pilot.
What if my postcode is not covered?+
You can join the waitlist and we'll let you know when FreeWash expands to your street.
Do I need to be home?+
Ideally yes for the pilot, or you need to provide clear access instructions and make sure the car is safely accessible.
What if my car is extremely dirty?+
The pilot wash is suitable for normal road dirt. If the car is heavily soiled, muddy, covered in bird mess, sap or contamination, we may need to adjust the service or decline the wash.
Will this scratch my car?+
The method is designed to reduce scratching by using a pre-wash where needed and clean microfibre cloths. However, any car wash carries some risk, especially on dirty or poorly maintained paintwork.
